So many people start blogs right? You want to start a blog don’t you? Knowing how to start a blog is the first step you must take. But 99% of blogs fail because they are trying to make money blogging and find they can’t or don’t know how.
So this is how to start a blog and make money. (Or read how Kirsten Porter dominated the food blogging niche)
It’s hard to cover all the material I need to on how to start a blog and make money in a 2 minute video so I’m going to give you my favourite pointers then point you to Darren Rowse and Chris Garrett’s ProBlogger book. That is the best book to help you make money on a blog.
My first major tip about how to make money when you run a blog is to NOT bog it down with ads. Instead, you should use your blog to sell some type of product or service.
You’re going to make way more money on a visitor purchasing a product, than a visitor clicking on an ad. $25 vs. 10 cents for a click. Yeah, I think people will like that better. not me! I’d rather get the 10 cents!
My next tip is to forget yourself and think of your audience. Believe me, I learned that the hard way. When I first started my 365 day blogging run, I started blogging a little about business and a lot about myself.
I scored an amazing opportunity to guest blog on handmadeology. I got 50 subscribers in a day. As a new blogger I was thrilled. Yeah, but that didn’t last!
I lost every single subscriber within 3 days. I couldn’t figure it out. I was screaming at the computer what do you want from me! And then a lightbulb appeared above my head I was talking way to much about myself. No one cares about you!
So instead, I started talking about 95% business and 5% myself just to add a little humanness to it. And voila!
Subscribers started staying, I slowly gained those subscribers back. And I just hit 3,400 YouTube followers this last week thanks to you wonderful people. And now I make money by showing people how to start a blog.
